The company responsible for the construction of the river corridor that will run parallel to the Arroyo Las Cañas d’Estepona – Ingeconsa Construcción y Agricultura (SLU) – has started work on new leisure and sports facilities on the outskirts of the city and which has a budget of 148,645 euros, as announced this Thursday by the Deputy Mayor of the Development, Infrastructure and Tourism Area, Ana Velasco.
Thus, the mayor explained that the works – which will benefit the residents of the residential areas of Torre Vigía, La Resinera, Las Joyas and Selwo -, are now focused on clearing the surface where the pedestrian path will be designed to connect Lima Street to the stretch of coastal corridor that was constructed at the mouth of Las Cañas stream.
The city manager pointed out that with these works, which will have an execution time of 2.5 months, “a river corridor will be created that will exceed 800 meters in length and three meters in width”, thus creating a new infrastructure that “will constitute the backbone of this whole area and will allow the regeneration of natural spaces next to the river bed”.
Velasco said that this project “will enhance the banks of this stream and add a new attraction to the region”, since citizens will be able to “recover for their pleasure a space that was until now inaccessible”.
In addition, the river corridor will have a stamped concrete pavement on a gravel pad that will allow pedestrians and cyclists to pass through, he said. In this way, “it will be possible to carry out healthy walks and cycling routes” since it will be connected to the coastal corridor that will join the coast of Estepona.
