The project, co-financed by the Diputación de Málaga, currently comprises some twenty kilometers linked by footpaths in the city.
The president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, inaugurated a new section of the coastal path in Estepona with the city’s mayor, José María García Urbano.
This brings to 90% the completion of the project in the coastal town, which boasts some 20 kilometers of coastal strip linked by footpaths.
The new project involved installing a wooden footbridge over the Vaquero stream, some 30 meters long and three meters wide, linking the Bahía Dorada housing estate and Avenida de México.
In addition, two 20-metre-long alabaster-coloured printed concrete ramps have been built alongside the bridge, as well as almost 140 metres of pedestrian walkways in front of the Bahía Dorada housing estate and a 36-metre-long nature trail, which runs from the creek access ramp to the section already built on Avenida de México.
Mr. Salado explained that the work involved an investment of almost 230,000 euros, of which the Diputación Provincial contributed 214,000 euros through the Municipal Economic Recovery Plan and the remainder from the Esteponero Consistory.
This coordinated effort with the town council will result in the connection of the 23 kilometers of coastline.
In addition, the Chairman of the Provincial Council pointed out that, over the last six years, the provincial institution has granted aid totalling 3.5 million euros for a dozen coastal path projects.
With this in mind, he announced that this year, over 800,000 euros will be transferred to Estepona, from a special plan dedicated to the province’s 16 municipalities with more than 25,000 inhabitants, for the renovation of a section of the town’s promenade, between La Cala and Jacaranda.
At provincial level, the institution intends to give a major boost this year to the Senda Litoral, for which it already has 7.9 million euros at its disposal.
