The Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, presented the V Concurso de Jóvenes Intérpretes ‘Ciudad de Estepona’ to support promising musical artists.
The councillor underlined “the city’s commitment to promoting culture in all its expressions and supporting artists”.
The mayor was accompanied by the competition’s artistic director, Olga Tarasova.
The national competition is open to young performers of piano, string instruments (violin, viola and cello), wind instruments, harp and guitar, up to the age of 13, with the exception of those who turn 14 on April 30, the last day of the competition.

The deadline for entries remains open until April 2, 2023.
The competition will take place on April 29 (semi-finals at the Colegio San José, 10:00 a.m.) and April 30 (finals at the Auditorium Felipe VI, 11:00 a.m.), with free entry by invitation from the Municipal Delegation of Culture.
The jury will be made up of leading figures from the world of music with national and international careers, as indicated by the City Council in a press release.
Members include Víctor del Valle, pianist, professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga; Ana María Valderrama, violinist, professor at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid; Fernando Arias, cellist, professor at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, and assistant professor of cello at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía ; Andrea Sestakova, violinist and concertmaster for 30 years with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, and Juan Alonso Mendoza, oboist and artistic director of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía and the Fundación Albéniz, who will also chair the jury.
Various prizes will also be awarded.
