The town hall of Estepona has announced the start of construction works for a new stretch of the coastal corridor in the Guadalmansa area, between the Ikos hotel and the Park Beach housing estate, which will allow an uninterrupted promenade of approximately eleven kilometers from the downtown.
The deputy mayor of the development, infrastructure and tourism area, Ana Velasco, indicated that the works are being carried out by the joint venture Rialsa Obras SL-Drainsal SLU and include the construction of a 625-meter stamped concrete coastal path long and four wide.
The works, whose execution time is six months, also include the construction of a wooden footbridge near the mouth of the Guadalmansa River, where a wooden bridge 62.5 meters long has been planned .
In addition, the area bordering the river will be planted with Mediterranean plant species, including reeds, oleanders, poplars, willows and tamarisk, covering an area of approximately 3.7 kilometers on both sides of the river.
The project, which is co-financed by the Estepona City Council and the Provincial Council of Malaga, has a budget of 919,103 euros. On the other hand, the company has paid 0.7% of the contract price for social purposes, since the Consistory has established as a priority criterion for the award of all public tenders that companies pay this percentage for meet the social needs of the city.
As for the coastal corridor project, the municipal official recalled that in 2020 three new sections were inaugurated, such as the one that connected the Laguna Village shopping center to Dominion Beach, the longest of those that have been executed until present, with a length of 870 meters and a width of 3.5 meters.
In addition, he said, a second stretch of 145 meters has been carried out located in Riviera Andaluza, which connects the H-10 Hotel with the bridge that has been built over the Guadalobón River, and recently has included the section of the path in front of the new IKOS Andalucía hotel, in the Guadalmansa area, corresponding to the urbanization of this area.
In addition, others are being promoted in the western part of the municipality, specifically in Arroyo Enmedio, where a small bridge will be installed, and in the area of Arroyo Vaquero, where a new bridge has been planned over the bed of the creek, and which already has authorization from the Junta de Andalucía.
The Deputy Mayor highlighted the advanced state of implementation of the Coastal Corridor project intended to connect 22.5 kilometers of Estepona’s coast with pedestrian paths, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy a new way to a city open to the sea and a new sustainable tourist attraction.
To date, the coastal corridor project is almost 90% complete, which means the existence of 19 kilometers of coastline connected by footpaths.
