The Town Hall of Estepona has launched a call for tenders for the complete redevelopment works of Avenida España to expand the Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol project, an action that will have an investment of more than 1.5 million and a lead time of 4 months.
The Consistory will carry out the works on the section between Avenida Juan Carlos I and Calle Terraza. The objective of this action is to renovate the paving and street furniture in order to improve the pedestrian use of this important enclave of the city.
After the complete redevelopment of the promenade, which was completed a few months ago, the town hall will continue the renovation of the northern part of Avenida España, thus giving homogeneity to this space throughout its section.
The works, which will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will recover new public spaces for citizens, enhancing the area and, therefore, offering better services to residents and visitors.
The proposed pedestrianization will make the avenue a more pleasant, quieter and safer transition point for citizens between the city and the beach. In this sense, Estepona will be at the forefront of urban planning, recovering for pedestrians such a privileged space by the sea, thus contributing to the sustainable city model promoted by the Estepona initiative, Garden of the Costa del Sol .
The works, which will last four months and will include a plan to guarantee the mobility of road traffic, will contribute to the continued revitalization of the city center of Estepona which, over the past ten years, has consolidated its position as one of the main tourist centers thanks to the remodeling of more than 130 streets and the pedestrianization of more than 17 kilometers.
The complete remodeling will represent an investment of more than 1.5 million euros and will be co-financed by the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) Estepona, garden of the Costa del Sol.
The winner of the works will have to pay 0.7% of the contract price to the town hall of Estepona, which will use it for social purposes in the city. The government team launched this pioneering initiative in public tenders that are launched with the aim of offering better attention to the most vulnerable people.
The project also provides for the complete renovation of the sewerage network on this avenue, replacing the two existing waste water collectors and the rainwater collector. This action, which is included in the “Estepona Supply Master Plan”, will provide a new design and discharge solution for the planned new separate networks.
In addition, the space to be recovered for pedestrians will be embellished with new green and landscaped areas. It is also planned to plant more than fifty trees to improve the landscape value of the area. In addition, several fountains, street furniture and decorative elements will be installed.
