Eneko Azpiroz’s “Profundo” won the “Estepona-Jardín de la Costa del Sol” international urban art competition organized by the Consistory and property developer AEDAS Homes.
The new mural, which occupies an area of 700 square meters, is located in the public square that has been created next to the future town hall building. Estepona Town Hall informs that Navarrese artist Eneko Azpiroz has completed the new artistic fresco in the public square next to the new town hall.
Occupying a surface area of 700 square metres, “Profundo” has become the municipality’s first mural, having been painted over the paving of the square.
In this way, the ground has become a place of creation, and the work can be freely walked and trodden on, to the delight of passers-by.
In addition, this creative performance will have an activating and transformative character for the public space.
It will measure the aesthetic experience and behavior of users, inviting spectators to explore it from different vantage points, transforming their perception of the landscape and placing this new space on the city’s cultural map.
Similarly, through this plastic intervention, artist Eneko Azpiroz appeals to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda 2030, and more specifically to the 14th challenge “Connect and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources”.
In addition, the composition is directly linked to the marine character of the city of Estepona.
The painting won the “Estepona-Jardín de la Costa del Sol” international urban art competition organized by the Consistory and AEDAS Homes, a nationally renowned property developer.
The competition is part of the “ConLasArtes by AEDAS Homes” cultural strategy, a unique initiative in the real estate sector that encourages artistic production of international scope and seeks to enhance the urban environment in a sustainable way, generating cohesion between society and artists in the cities where it develops its activity.
As for the production of the work, the artist explained that he had opted for a flat ink technique for better visualization at close range and so that it could also be appreciated from above.
As a base, the work has turquoise blues and a predominance of magentas and yellows.
In the days preceding the start of work, Eneko Azpiroz took zenithal images with a drone and established the composition’s grids.
The fresco represents various large marine animals that will become a symbol of the defense of our oceans.
In this respect, the artist explained that the work is a message that caring for the seas should be a priority for the health of people and the planet.
Finally, it’s worth pointing out that the “Profundo” fresco is the 64th work in the great open-air museum that Estepona has become, and which has made it a benchmark for urban art in our country.
The Route of Artistic Frescoes is unique in that it features works by artists of different currents and styles, so that urban art enthusiasts can discover realistic, avant-garde, expressionist or traditionalist paintings.
Estepona Town Hall has already promoted two editions of the International Fresco Art Competition and one of the Estepona-Jardín de la Costa del Sol Urban Art Competition, where renowned artists have contributed outstanding creations to this municipal proposal.
