The Commission will still have to undertake work to adapt the operating theaters and laboratories and improve the spaces
Estepona High Resolution Hospital is now under the jurisdiction of the Andalusian government. Since the town hall of Estepona finished the works, in December 2018, the building has remained closed and inactive. The president of the Andalusian government, Juanma Moreno, received the building today and announced that his government was “handing over” this infrastructure.
The president argued that the first outpatient consultations will be open, “if all goes well” and if the epidemic allows it, in less than six months and that the center will be 100% operational next year.
The center will serve nearly 100,000 local residents, who will be joined by another 36,000 users over the summer months. As a high-resolution centre, it will provide services under the single-act model; it will carry out 85,000 consultations, in 20 specialties; it will take care of 91,000 emergencies and perform 4,000 surgeries per year.

The operating phases will be staggered: first the outpatient consultations, in parallel with the additional examinations, then the day hospital, the emergencies and finally the most complex hospitalizations.
Mr. Moreno clarified that the project dates back 12 years, so the Council will now have to undertake immediate adaptation work. The provincial health delegate, Carlos Bautista, clarified that the work in progress, which will have a budget of around one million euros, will concern the operating theaters, the laboratories and the extension of the room. waiting for emergencies. “The meeting room is like a cinema. A hospital doesn’t need such a big auditorium. We think there should be more space for recovery, wards, ICU. We want hospitals with lots of rooms,” the delegate said.
The hospital’s equipment is already, according to the president, “submitted, received and in good condition to save time”.
Mr. Moreno thanked the “effort” of the Estepona City Council, which invested 16 million euros in the construction of this health center with its own resources, and stressed that it is a “another proof of the management capacity that has managed to make one of the most important hospital infrastructures in Andalusia”.
He added that this new center will decongest the Costa del Sol hospital, “collapsed and showing signs of exhaustion”, and made the expansion work of this center dependent on the arrival of European funds.
