This Monday marks the start of classes at the new Estepona Elementary Conservatory of Music for the 2024/2025 academic year, according to the calendar drawn up by the Junta de Andalucía.
The center, located in Mirador del Carmen, has filled all available places for its inaugural year.
The conservatory occupies part of the facilities of the Mirador del Carmen cultural center, ceded to the regional government under an agreement.
In this first year, 48 students will be able to study elementary music without leaving Estepona, thus covering the total number of places available.
The Junta de Andalucía has authorized 15 places for piano, 12 for guitar, 12 for clarinet and 9 for saxophone.
Once up and running, the center is expected to accommodate around 200 students.
The students in this first course were admitted after passing selective tests set by the Consejería de Desarrollo Educativo.
The conservatory’s facilities are spread over the building’s two lower floors, and include an audition room, theory classrooms, individual and group rehearsal rooms, and a two-level exhibition hall.
This initiative is the fruit of collaboration between Estepona Town Council and the Andalusian Regional Government’s Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training, with the aim of expanding the city’s public education offering.
Although these subjects are not compulsory, they are considered fundamental to the integral development of society.
The opening of the conservatory represents a significant step forward in educational provision in Estepona, offering new generations the chance to enter the world of music and train as future professionals.
It also meets a long-standing demand in the town, as previously students interested in elementary music education had to travel to other municipalities.
