Over the past week, the City of Estepona has inaugurated two new sections of the coastal promenade, providing more than twenty kilometers of seafront walking.
Here is a press review of articles published over the last few days: VILLACANA Estepona inaugurated the new section of the coastal corridor in the Villacana-Playa del Sol area.
This new pathway is linked to the Taraje creek section and to the one planned for Punta del Saladillo.
As a result, citizens can now walk the 13 kilometers or so between the port of Estepona and the El Saladillo area in the east of the municipality without interruption.
The mayor of the municipality, José María García Urbano, explained that the coastal corridor project, initiated by the town council to link the entire Estepona coastline by means of these promenades, is now over 90% complete, meaning that there are some 21 kilometers of coastline linked by these pedestrian paths.
The work required an investment of 432,344 euros and was funded by the EU’s new-generation recovery, transformation and resilience plan.
The work consisted of a 398-meter-long, 3-meter-wide printed concrete pathway.
At the same time, gardening work and the installation of street furniture were carried out.
In addition, the Town Hall has also launched a call for tenders for another section that will run alongside Playa del Cristo beach and the Veramar and Bermeja Beach urbanizations.
The basic budget for the tender is 617,967 euros, and will also be financed by European funds ARENA BEACH – GUADALOBON
The work, which links Arena Beach to Guadalobón, had a budget of 702,8830 euros (including VAT) and was financed by the Plan de Inversiones Mancomunados 2022 of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental (Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol).
With the completion of this section, citizens will be able to travel the 2 kilometers separating Costa Natura from the urbanization of Costa Natura without interruption.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the president of the association of municipalities of the western Costa del Sol, José Antonio Mena, inaugurated a new section of the coastal corridor in the western part of the city, linking the Arena Beach urbanization to Guadalobón, and connecting residential areas that were previously cut off from each other.
The mayor stressed that, with the completion of this project, citizens will be able to travel the two kilometers between Costa Natura and the Doncella Beach urbanization without interruption.
Construction work on the new path involved the creation of a sand-colored paved driveway 535 meters long and 3 meters wide.
The budget was 702,830 euros (including VAT) and was financed by the Mancomunados 2022 Investment Plan, launched last year by the Association of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities.
In this respect, Mr. García Urbano emphasized the importance of collaboration between public administrations to carry out investments in municipalities, and pointed out that one of the strategic projects for Estepona is the completion of the coastal corridor linking the entire coast.
The councillor explained that this was a “sustainable, strategic, high-priority and high-impact” project for the town, which has preserved the coastline, enhanced its value and created a new tourist attraction.
“We’re about to reach the end, as there are few areas of the municipality left to complete”.
The Estepona Coastal Path project, which aims to link the entire coastal strip with these footpaths, is well underway.
It has already linked over 21 kilometers of the municipality, or more than 90% of the entire coastline.
In addition, the Town Hall has issued a call for tenders for another section that will run along Playa del Cristo beach and the settlements of Veramar and Bermeja Beach.
The basic budget for the tender is 617,967 euros (including VAT) and will also be financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
In addition, Estepona City Council has launched a tender for the supply of sustainable lighting for the coastal corridor with the public tender for two actions, included in the energy efficiency plan, consisting of the installation of a new system with LED technology in the coastal corridor which will have an investment of 281,145.92 euros, as reported on Thursday by the Consistory.
More specifically, they explained that two actions are planned, one involving the supply of 87 new solar-powered luminaires for outdoor lighting, powered by photovoltaic panels.
These will be installed on sections of the coastal corridor running from the Carrefour shopping center to Playa del Ángel (30 luminaires) and from the Andalucía Beach development to the Las Dunas hotel (57 luminaires).
The tender budget is 89,268.96 euros (including VAT).
