The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, presented this Wednesday at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) being held in Madrid the project that “opens the city to the sea”, a sustainable urban development initiative “that will create a balcony over the Mediterranean, generating a new pole of tourist attraction and which will complement the project already underway Estepona, garden of the Costa del Sol”.
This new project will have the imprint of the architect and urban planner of Malaga, Salvador Moreno Peralta, National Urbanism Award, which will generate a new strategic space by the sea, expanding cultural and leisure services, while providing Estepona with a new tourist landmark with an observation tower that will offer “unobstructed views of the city and the sea”.
This landmark, said the councilor of Madrid, “will be a versatile space for the versatility of uses and a unique element for its design and functionality”. The development will integrate this privileged enclave by the sea in the center of the city, “highlighting one of the main axes of the municipality and allowing the creation of a balcony on the sea which will become a new pole of tourist attraction. in line with the Estepona project, Garden of the Costa del Sol”, he reiterated.
“The Costa del Sol garden opens onto the Mediterranean with a project that is already underway, which will be a reality in the coming years, and which consolidates all the effort of modernization and revitalization that we have developed over the of this decade,” he said.
In this sense, the mayor pointed out that this year marks a decade of the Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol project, an initiative that “has had a huge economic and social impact, completely transforming the aesthetics, creating a model of sustainable city and revitalizing the economic activity of the municipality”.
“This gave rise to a real garden on an urban area of 18 km of streets, which was complemented by other initiatives such as a unique botanical park-Orchidarium, an open-air museum, with more than 60 works or an open-air library with a Poetry Route that brings culture to the streets”, added García Urbano.
Estepona, garden of the Costa del Sol, he added, has repositioned the brand of the city and created “a quality tourist destination that breaks with seasonality”. Today it will be completed with a new one that is already underway with the start of the drafting of the project for the development and construction of this unique socio-cultural equipment, with a commercial and restaurant area, which will be carried out in Avenida de España, next to the lighthouse.
This project will be one of the main initiatives to be promoted during this mandate in the city and is part of the productive investment plan launched by the City Council last June to generate employment and stimulate the local economy, assuming the drafting of the project and the execution of the works a total investment of 14.5 million euros.
