Estepona City Council approved this Thursday in plenary session the possibility for registered residents to visit the Mirador del Carmen exhibition space free of charge, which will open its doors at the beginning of April with 50 works from the Thyssen collection, according to the mayor, José María García Urbano.
To this end, two invitations a year will be sent to registered residents of the city to visit the Mirador El Carmen exhibition center free of charge, as is the case with other local spaces such as Selwo or the botanical park-orchidarium.
In this way, the Consistory will continue its project to bring culture closer to its citizens, facilitating their access to the major national and international art exhibitions to be held in this space, which will become a cultural benchmark in Andalusia thanks to its characteristics and the quality and interest of the exhibitions it will host.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, explained that the exhibition center will open its doors at the beginning of April with an exhibition of Spanish works of art from the private collection of Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza.
The councillor appreciated the cultural and social impact this initiative will have on the city, giving a valuable boost to Estepona’s cultural and artistic offering.
He also referred to the commitment made over the last decade to developing a sustainable city model and quality of life, which has been a clear driving force for cultural, social and economic activity in the municipality.
In addition, he announced that the Consistory will also be organizing a series of open days so that the citizens of Estepona can enjoy the impressive views that can be glimpsed from the tower of El Mirador El Carmen.
El Mirador will house a vertical library: The Mirador del Carmen project, complemented by the redevelopment and pedestrianization of Avenida de España, will house a large vertical library and study spaces, a music conservatory, an auditorium for cultural events, a major exhibition hall that will open with pieces from the Carmen Thyssen collection and a belvedere that will undoubtedly become another major attraction for visitors, since it will be a vantage point from which to appreciate the marine essence of the city.
The mayor stressed that this initiative will be the culmination of Estepona’s urban and tourist revitalization, placing the city at the forefront of those committed to quality of life, sustainability and the well-being of its citizens.
This new area has become a place of transition between the embellished urban center, the ‘garden of the Costa del Sol’, and the Mediterranean coast, with a new, revitalized space that is more pleasant, open to pedestrians, full of nature and already one of the city’s favorite places to stroll and enjoy,” he added.
