Santana Golf in Mijas

Santana Golf is an 18-hole, Par 72 course, approximately 6,207 meters in length, set in 55 hectares of soft ground.

The architect, Cabell B. Robinson, was not obliged to submit the land to major transformations, because the original domain made it possible to solve the problems posed in a less traumatic way. The end result is a long course with wide and well-defined fairways, on flat, easy-to-walk terrain, where the liquid element has an important presence throughout the course, but without unnecessary excesses.

On each hole there are 5 tees – for professionals, gentlemen and ladies – and there are large putting surfaces, flanked by strategically placed marble bunkers. The course is also equipped with wide paths for strollers, integrated in perfect harmony between the rows of beautiful fruit trees.

Despite its previous use, the avocado tree or Persea Indica (this is its scientific name) is not the only tree present on the estate, since it is home to many species such as eucalyptus, orange tree, lemon tree, the cactus, pine, fig, olive, mango and other trees that are part of the varied vegetation of this beautiful enclave, without forgetting the many varieties of birds that also inhabit the estate, including several specimens of booted eagle. Special mention should be made of the cork oak of Hoyo 5, which has been present in the region for more than five hundred years.

This beautiful environment surrounded by nature, together with the encroaching vegetation, gives the visitor the first impression of being in a fully consolidated field, as the feeling of maturity permeates every corner of the land.

But it is not only the beauty of the landscape and the flora and fauna that impress the player, as the golf course itself is endowed with the best attributes to satisfy the most demanding golfer.

Technically speaking, Santana Golf can be described as a demanding but at the same time entertaining course, as the design of each hole has been studied to offer a continuous challenge even to the most accomplished players. The arrangement of the greens and the bunkers, as well as the numerous water obstacles distributed along the course, guarantee a noble competition, since they will test the abilities of the player, who will be forced to use his best repertoire of shots .

Talking about an “emblematic hole” is a very complicated exercise at Santana Golf, because they all have a particular charm. According to the designer, the 18th is one of the toughest holes on the coast; Magnificent in its appearance from the tee, the finish of this hole is as high as one would expect from such a spectacular course. This magnificent Par 4 has an elevated putting surface and obstacles on both sides of the fairway which give this last hole of the course an intimidating character.

However, hole 4 can be defined in one word: “spectacular”. The views from the tee are breathtaking, with the Arroyo Campillos cheekily defending the entrance to the green. And what about hole 8, 602 meters, one of the longest on the Costa del Sol, preferably ideal for big hitters. Not forgetting the 12, a Par 3 downhill, with a huge green waiting on the slope, although it will be difficult to complete this hole in three strokes due to its difficulty. In fact, one of the most outstanding features of Santana Golf is the uniqueness of the course, since each of the holes has different characteristics.
