The mayor of Estepona and PP re-election candidate José Maria Garcia Urbano this Friday presented the objectives of the electoral program for the May 28 municipal elections.
At an event attended by more than 700 people, held at the Felipe VI Auditorium, the popular leader put forward the objective of “continuing the great transformation and historic change” that the city has undergone over the last 12 years and for this, he stressed, “the PP is the only guarantee” that Estepona “will remain a benchmark for quality of life and well-being”.
With this in mind, he put forward the projects that form part of the electoral programme and the commitment with citizens for the next term.
He mentioned the priority objective of turning Estepona into a university town by implementing a project that will be “an excellent social, economic and cultural driving force” for the municipality, and will lead to a significant diversification of local activity.
Garcia Urbano indicated that the great change that has had the city will have another milestone with the complete renovation of Avenida San Lorenzo, for its integration with the renovated Avenida de España and with the renovated urban center, the Jardin de la Costa del Sol, generating another great urban boulevard that merges with the city’s opening to the sea.
The project, which takes place in the heart of the city, on the axis between the new Consistorial House, the promenade and the urban center, includes the creation of an underground parking lot and a shopping and leisure area.
He emphasized that, with this sustainable urban development initiative, we are moving forward with the city model created over these 12 years and the friendly, sustainable, quality-of-life city in which Estepona has become.
He also indicated that he continues to contribute to the revitalization and revitalization of the economic and social activity that has brought about Estepona’s great transformation.
The popular leader explained that the city’s northern zone, the area where major facilities have been created over the last decade, will continue to grow with new projects: the creation of a velodrome with a soccer pitch inside, the integration of the Monterroso river into the city, the complete renovation of the San Fernando soccer pitch, the creation of an indoor swimming pool and a 700-space underground parking lot.
As far as parking lots are concerned, there are plans to create new facilities with the pioneering system of one euro per day for the user.
Specifically, to this project in the San Fernando area, 700 spaces, is added another in the vicinity of the El Carmen church, with a capacity of 380 spaces.
In addition, he defended the pioneering and social character of this network of public parking lots, which will exceed 3,000 spaces with these new facilities, and which are managed by disabled people, thus promoting their social inclusion.
On the subject of management, Garcia Urbano referred to the considerable efforts made to reduce the left-wing governments debt in 2011, which stood at 304 million euros and has now been reduced to 49 million euros.
The city councillor and popular re-election candidate announced the goal of achieving zero debt in the next term, maintaining “transparent, efficient and compliant” economic management and achieving “the biggest tax cut” achieved in the city. In this regard, he recalled that every day of these 12 years of government, 60,000 euros were spent on paying off this inherited debt, more than 250 million euros over these 12 years.
“How many things could have been done with this money and how many things could be done when we end the burden of left-wing governments?” asked.
Garcia Urbano mentioned other objectives for the city, such as regenerating the coastline and building retaining structures; integrating the A7 into the city’s structure; improving and extending the urban transport service; and taking special care to maintain the city and strengthen services for the suburbs.
