The first works for the improvement of the municipal sports center of Cancelada, in the municipality of Estepona, in the province of Malaga, which will strengthen the offer related to water sports in the city, have already begun.
The deputy mayor of the socio-cultural area, Begoña Ortiz, explained that this project, awarded to the company Yuki Concordia SL, provides for the implementation of a series of actions valued at around 300,000 euros.
The main objective of this action is that this sports equipment can be used throughout the year for swimming and other aquatic activities such as triathlon, water aerobics or family swimming. To this end, the existing swimming pool of the sports center will be heated and a series of reforms will be carried out.
For now, the work carried out consists of the air conditioning of the swimming pool and the cafeteria, with the aim of being able to use these facilities for part of the summer, he said.
The rest of the actions included in the first phase will resume in September, such as the installation of the air conditioning system of the swimming pool, as well as the change of the lighting of the same, the reconstruction of the cafeteria with the terrace, the arrangements for painting, the placement of solar panels in storage and in the main building and the change of the perimeter fence of the complex. This work must be completed within one year.
The concessionaire, which will operate the facilities for a period of 20 years, will carry out a series of improvements and reforms in a second phase so that in the sports complex can be practiced other disciplines such as football, gymnastics for seniors , tennis, paddle tennis, yoga, karate and physical education.
In addition, the winning company will maintain the same public prices provided for by the municipal ordinance and will cede a certain number of hours to the Consistory to continue developing the classes of the municipal sports schools and organize the activities that traditionally took place in these facilities. .
This commitment to conditioning the pool to be available year-round will encourage the promotion of local swim clubs, as well as new programs that make it easier for children, adults and families to practice the sport, the Consistory said.
In addition, lessons in sports swimming, swimming with fins or improving swimming technique for adults will be offered, among other activities. There will also be a swimming, wellness and breathing clinic, as well as weight loss and health improvement groups.
Ortiz said that this project that will be carried out in the sports facilities of Cancelada, together with the remodeling of the poliderpotivo de Las Viñas, which began operating last May, the City Council is advancing in the improvement and expansion of the sports facilities municipal.
In this regard, the Deputy Mayor stressed that the Consistory “aims to continue the creation of sports facilities throughout the municipality”. Thus, he recalled that “in recent years more than 30 sports fields and bio-sanitary circuits have been built, both in the city districts and in the suburbs, with the idea of facilitating the practice of sport and promoting healthy habits among the population.
Thus, the Consistory has transformed disused plots into sports grounds where one can exercise in the open air, free of charge, throughout the year. In addition, the facilities that have been created are aimed at all types of audiences and sports disciplines since they are tracks where it is possible to play as a team or circuits to train individually.
The municipal official highlighted the progress the city has made in terms of sports facilities over the past eight years, thanks to projects such as the creation of the Exhibition and Sports Park, the Athletics Stadium, the Circuit de Go-karting, the Cancelada soccer field or the skate park, among other facilities.
